Surviving a House Fire: The Tools & Tips That Keep Our Family Safe
I was in the basement when I heard my mom come in... moments later, she screamed. Get out, the house is on fire! I didn't see or smell smoke, I didn't see flames. I ran out of the basement, up to ground level and then directly upstairs to the second level to knock on the tenant's door. By the time I reached their door their porch was filled with smoke. I knocked once "Get out the house is on fire"--knocked a second time--the smoke was too thick; I had to run--back down the stairs to the ground level. Thankfully they heard. They got out. We were all safe. As a family that has survived a house fire, we’re always cautious. Here are some of tools we use to keep our family safe:
We sleep with our doors closed.
We use WD40 to make sure are windows remain operable; spraying it into the tracks to keep things moving so that we’re able exit via windows if needed https://amzn.to/4b5ah7m
Since none of us has any desire to break an ankle or worse, we have a Kidde Fire Ladder https://amzn.to/3EEbrdW
In the event that we’re in the vicinity as a fire begins, we purchased the Prepared Hero Fire Blanket https://amzn.to/3X0mXq5
